‘Fringe’ Ratings are Back Up but Show Still in Trouble

After two weeks of declining ratings, Fox’s ‘Fringe’ came back this week with a total viewership of 4.1 million and a 1.5 rating in the key 18 to 49 demographic on Friday night, says The Hollywood Reporter.

Last week,’ Fringe’ had reached its lowest number of viewers to date with only 3.7 million, and a 1.4 rating, leading to star Joshua Jackson to plead with fans to campaign to save the dwindling numbers.

“I’m a positive person in general, but we really need our ‘Fringe’ fans to tune in and watch us on Fridays,” Jackson said. “We did good when we first moved, but last week we did not have a good week, ratings wise. It is going to take the people that like the show to watch the show and start the campaign and show their support if they want to see us stick around for another season,” he added to Entertainment Weekly.

Even though the ratings this week increased by 57 percent thanks to DVR playback, which suggest that people would rather watch the show on the weekend, rather than Friday, this doesn’t really help the show because viewers probably skipped over commercials. Jackson tells fans that they should try and watch the show on Friday night; otherwise the science fiction series could get canceled.

According to the HDR Room, ‘Fringe’ executive producers Jeff Pinker and J.H Wyman had put together a 5-year plan that is only now passing mid-point, and in order to stay on air, the ratings need to stabilize or increase in order for Fox to renew the show for another season.

Meanwhile, Jackson gives fans a taste of what’s coming up in the show in order to pull them back in. He said, “apparently I’m gonna be a dad…And it is like the most extreme long-distance relationship…My baby’s mama is in another universe.”  He added to Entertainment Weekly, that the show had gotten very Romeo and Juliet-like and that more science and straight “fringe-iness” were to be expected in the coming weeks.
