NCAA ‘Sweet 16’ Teams Announced

March Madness is in full swing. After two rounds of NCAA tournaments, teams that made it to the sweet 16 have been announced and are scheduled to play between March 25 and 26.

In the East, the Ohio State Buckeyes will be playing against No. 4 University of Kentucky for an elite 8 spot. Both teams are considered dangerous; Ohio is seen by many as the best team in the country while Kentucky enters the competition with an eight game winning streak, reports CBS Sports. On its end, Marquette beat all odds and won against Syracuse 66-62, and will face the North Carolina Tar Heels.

In the Southeast Regional, Butler will be competing against the University of Wisconsin Badgers after a stunning win against No.1 seed Pittsburg on Saturday, reports ESPN.  BYU will be playing against No. 2 seed Florida.

In a less surprising West Regional, No. 5 seed Arizona State will be playing be playing No.1 Duke on Friday and No.3 UConn will be facing No.2 San Diego State University, reports the Huffington Post.

In the Southwest Regional, two Richmond town teams VCU and Richmond will be present in San Antonio. No. 1 seed, Kansas will be competing against Richmond for an elite 8 spot. 11th seeded VCU won against No. 3 seed, Purdue, in what is being called “the Cinderella Story of the tournament,” according to ESPN. The team will be facing Florida State that beat out Notre Dame 71 to 57 and will be headed for the sweet sixteen for the first time since 1993.

“Only in my wildest dreams,” said guard Bernard James, who led FSU with 14 points despite being not feeling well in the morning. “I’m living my dream right now,” he added to the Orlando Sentinel.

As for lead scorers of the tournament, Jimmer Fredette of BYU leads the pack with 28.8 PPG, followed by Marshon Brooks of Providence and Adrian Oliver of San Jose State with 24.6 and 24 points respectively, reports the NCAA.
