Nadal Beats Rival Federer Cruises to Finals in Miami

Rafael Nadal won against long-time rival Roger Federer to reach the Sony Ericsson Open in Miami finals where he will be facing No.2 Novak Djokovic.

In their first U.S match in 6 years, Spanish-native Nadal played a solid game against Federer who is facing mounting speculation that he is no longer able to hold his ground against younger players. “The bigger hassle is being asked all the time these questions,” Federer said according to the San Francisco Chronicle.

“I don’t know how many times I need to answer until I just say I’m not going to answer it anymore. But I know that I can do many more things in the game. I’m very excited by what’s to come still. I don’t feel like I’m 35 like you guys make me sound I am. I’m still only 29, and I have many more years left.” However, he admitted that “It was an off night for me, unfortunately…Very disappointing,’’ according to the Miami Herald.

Apparently the rankings had it right by placing Federer at No. 3 because No. 1 Nadal and No. 2 Djokovic will be facing off in the finals. Djokovic has been playing a flawless game with 25 straight game winning streak. He beat No. 1 American-ranking Mardy Fish 6-3 and 6-1 in the other semifinal.

Nadal is aware of his opponent’s capacity, saying, “He’s playing fantastic,” according to ESPN. “I just can congratulate him about what he did the first three months of the season. On Sunday I have to play very well all the match if I want to have any chance.” On his end, Djokovic isn’t getting cocky about the final saying, “I don’t feel invincible, I don’t feel that I can’t lose on the court’’ he said. “What I feel is big confidence. What I feel is that I’m playing best tennis of my life.”
