‘L.A Noire’ First Video Game to be Featured in Tribeca Film Festival

Crime thriller, L.A Noire will be an Official Selection at the Tribeca Film festival due to take place from April 20 to May 1.

This is the first time a video game has ever been selected for a film festival as prestigious as the Tribeca Film Festival.  The upcoming L.A Noire by Rockstar games is an interactive movie which uses MotionScan technology to capture characters from all angles and record even the slightest facial expressions, says MTV News.

An exclusive premiere of the lifelike video game will be featured in the film festival which was co-founded by Oscar-winning actor Robert DeNiro in 2002. The presentation of the game will be “a live interactive screening of a case from ‘L.A. Noire” followed by a question and answer session “exploring the crossover between filmmaking and interactive entertainment,” adds MTV News.

“We’re thrilled that L.A. Noire is being recognized by the Tribeca Film Festival in this way,” said Founder of Rockstar Games, Sam Houser in a statement relayed by Time, “It’s a real honor, and another step forward for interactive entertainment.”

“What Rockstar and Team Bondi have accomplished with L.A. Noire is nothing less than groundbreaking,” said Geoff Gilmore, Tribeca Enterprises’ Chief Creative Officer. “It’s an invention of a new realm of storytelling that is part cinema, part gaming, and a whole new realm of narrative expression, interactivity, and immersion. We are poised on the edge of a new frontier.” For example, gamers playing the detective crime will have to read the body language of people being questioned to solve the case, and thanks to the facial animation scans, this is now possible, states Variety.

The annual Tribeca Film Festival has hosted many premieres such as ‘Star Wars II: Attack of the Clones’ and ‘The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen,’ according to Wired. The video game L.A Noire is due for release on May 17 for Xbox 360 and Playstation 3.
