Samsung May Reveal New Galaxy Tablet

Based on invitations sent out to the press, Samsung might be unveiling a new Galaxy tablet on March 22 at the CTIA Wireless trade show in Orlando.

The invitation itself includes the shape of a tablet; over it can be read, “What’s your tab life?” and the number 78910 reports Computerworld. Samsung already announced a 10.1 inch tablet at the World Mobile Congress last month in Barcelona. The invitation continues, and asks, “Curious about what’s behind 78910?” “Come discover what the buzz is all about and join us on our journey as we experience a world of endless technological possibility,” the invitation says. “We’ll unveil our latest mobile products and innovations and explore the exciting new consumer lifestyles they make possible,” it adds.

PCmag reports that Samsung’s Galaxy Tab, which was launched in November, is the best selling tablet behind Apple’s Ipad. Samsung says that it has sold over 2 million tablets, but many observers state that there have been up to 16 percent of returns in January. In comparison, the Apple Ipad sold over 15 million units between April and December of 2010.

Samsung is striving to make the necessary changes to stay competitive, especially after seeing the newest upgrades to the Ipad 2. After the March 2 launch, thoroughly impressed, Lee Don-Joo, executive vice president of mobile devices at Samsung told South Korea’s publicly funded Yonhap News Agency, and relayed by CNN, “We will have to improve the parts that are inadequate [in our tablets]. Apple made it very thin.”

Ipad’s competitive pricing is also making Samsung executives nervous. When launched, the Galaxy tab started out at $900 without a contract, says Daily Tech. However, Don-Joo is now reconsidering the price of the upcoming Samsung tablet, saying to Yonhap News Agency, “The 10-inch (tablet) was to be priced higher than the 7-inch, but we will have to think that over,” he said.
