Enrique Iglesias Drops out of Britney Spears Tour

Despite initial reports, Enrique Iglesias won’t be touring with Britney Spears this summer because TMZ says he couldn’t handle being her opening act.

Britney Spears went on ‘Good Morning America’ yesterday to promote her new album, and announced that she will be touring with Enrique this summer across North America. Enrique and Britney’s agents and lawyers had been in talks for weeks about the planned upcoming tour, and both sides agreed to the finalized terms.

However, Enrique decided to opt out of the tour because he made it clear he didn’t want to be her opening act, reports TMZ. Sources say that the tour agreement was favorable to Enrique with “great terms and great placement,” but he just couldn’t fathom taking the stage before Britney.

Iglesias representative Gary Mantoosh told The Associated Press, “Despite initial reports based on formal discussions of the possible run, Enrique will continue on his solo tour in support of his new album Euphoria. Enrique has great respect for Britney and is a longtime fan of her work. He is very sorry for the confusion this might have caused to anyone.”

Britney Spears released her seventh album ‘Femme Fatale’ yesterday, to high praise. “Femme Fatale is definitely Britney’s strongest album overall,” said senior music editor at US magazine, Ian Drew to MTV News. He gave the album four stars, and added, “The songs speak for themselves; it’s unapologetically a great dance pop album.”

Britney’s summer tour is set to kick off June 17 in Sacramento. She will be hitting 26 cities from June until August. The tour will be produced by Live Nation, which already put together successful tours for ‘Nsync, the Backstreet Boys and the Jonas Brothers, reports Billboard. Britney’s last ‘Circus’ tour grossed over $120 million and drew more than 1.3 million people to over 84 shows.

Enrique Iglesias is currently on a European tour to promote his new album, ‘Euphoria,’ which for the first time, feature songs in both English and Spanish.
