Dying for Daylight Game Inspired by ‘True Blood’ Author

Charlaine Harris, the author of the books that inspired HBO’s hit drama series, ‘True Blood’ has ventured into video game territory with Dying for Daylight.

The game which is now available for PC allows vampire fans to follow another one of Harris’s vampires, Dahlia as she searches for a legendary sun potion that would allow vampires to be out in daylight. The game is produced by iPlay Entertainment and is available for download here. During the game, players can follow Dahlia as she wanders the gothic undergrounds of cities such as Memphis and New Orleans in search for the potion. This is the first time that Harris has been involved in a video game. When asked by Entertainment Weekly why she decided to go for it, she replied,

“Well, my kids play videogames, and I grew up seeing a lot of videogames, although the few times I tried to play the, I was an abysmal failure. Then I saw some of my friends — fellow writers — venturing into videogames, and I thought: “Well, golly, nobody has ever asked me!” So I was thrilled when my agents told the people over at iPlay were interested in me.”

Dying for Daylight is a four part computer game in which players will help Dahlia battle with other vampire sects and make sure that the sun potion doesn’t fall into the wrong hands. It is a one-player game, aimed at “casual gamers,” according to the Wall Street Journal.

With this game, Harris hopes to attract new readers for her books, “Well, I hope that people will play the games and think: “Oh the person who thought of this game must be so cool, maybe I’ll go buy the books!” And then buy the books. Maybe people who don’t really read novels a lot would become aware that there were books and short stories about the Dahlia character – who is only in short stories – and hopefully appeal to a new audience,” according to Entertainment Weekly.  Learn more about True Blood.
