New Game Bulletstorm Being Accused of Excessive Violence

Fox News has dubbed the soon to come out video game Bulletstorm ‘the worst game in the world.’

The network overtly criticized out the game’s excessive violence, gruesome killing, and overuse of profanity and sexual innuendos. The game that is due out on February 22, features players that are rewarded for shooting enemies in their private parts, and uses ‘explicit sexual acts’ to characterize violent actions. For example ‘topless’ means cutting an enemy in half, while ‘gang bang’ refers to killing multiple enemies, according to Fox News.

“If a younger kid experiences Bulletstorm’s explicit language and violence, the damage could be significant,” said clinical psychologist Jerry Weichman to Fox News.” Violent video games like Bulletstorm have the potential to send the message that violence and insults with sexual innuendos are the way to handle disputes and problems,” Weichman added.

Another psychologist Carol Lieberman told Fox News that games such Bulletstorm have led to increase instances of rape in our societies, ”The increase in rapes can be attributed in large part to the playing out of (sexual) scenes in video games,” she said. Although the Entertainment Software Rating Board (ESRB) rates video games as either T for Teen or M for Matures, Lieberman says that it isn’t an effective method for keeping violent games out of children’s hands because nobody enforces the ratings in retail.

On its end, Epic didn’t answer requests to talk by FOX News, but  EA released a statement saying, “Bulletstorm has been given an “M” rating by the ESRB, and we have adhered to all their guidelines in regards to the marketing and promotion of Bulletstorm,” according to the VideoGamer.

The president of Entertainment Consumer Association, Hal Halpin also defended Bulletstorm, telling FOX News that it was up to parents to decide and enforce what their children play, ”Between a great ratings system, parental controls on the consoles and the major retailers inhibiting the sale of Mature-rated games to minors, the matter is really one for parents and adults to consider, individually,” he said, according to FOX News.

For those of you who are going to brave the violent nature of BulletStorm, you can pre-order.
