It looks like DC Universe Online, the PlayStation 3 gaming system’s first MMORPG has paid off and has gained virtually instantaneous popularity.  The Sony creation is the first of its kind for the PS3, and while some were skeptical of its potential success, there are definitely no questions lingering now.  DC Universe Online has become Sony Entertainment’s fastest selling video game ever, and they are scrambling to deal with retail shortages of the game in stores.

For those unfamiliar with this sensational superhero extravaganza, DC Universe Online allows players to create their very own, original super hero or villain, and then use their character to either fight crime along side their favorite hero, or become a criminal, fighting against their favorite super hero.  The customization features on the game are simply phenomenal, allowing for tremendous creative expression and an added level of fun when playing.

For those of you who choose to create a hero, you will be assigned a hero mentor, such as Superman, Batman, or Wonder Woman to help you to learn the ropes in your crime fighting adventures.  Those of you who choose the dark side and instead create your very own villain will also be assigned a mentor, but your mentor will be a super villain, likely the arch nemesis to your favorite super hero, such as Lex Luther or the Joker.

Since DC Universe Online is an MMORPG, you can play with multiple other heroes and villains from around the world in an online crime fighting scenario, or you can choose to keep it to yourself and play an exciting off-line version of the game.  MMORPG games are known for their extensive social opportunities to become a part of gaming networks and communities, and DC Universe Online is no exception.  DC Universe online is available for both the PlayStation 3 and for PCs, and comes in both a standard version and a collector’s edition.
