Ashlee Simpson Divorcing from Pete Wentz

Ashlee Simpson has filed for divorce from her husband, Fall Out Boy musician, Pete Wentz whom she wed back in May 2008, according to TMZ.

The divorce papers were filed in L.A Superior Court, and they cited “irreconcilable differences,” as the main reason. Ashlee wants joint custody of their 2-year-old son Bronx Mowgli and primary physical custody of him, and she’s also asking for child and spousal support according to the Hollywood Gossip. According to TMZ, Pete also wants sole physical custody of their son, so this could lead to a custody battle to arise.

The same article says that a source close to Ashlee revealed that she got tired of Wentz’s “erratic behavior,” and really “wanted out.” People close to the couple disclosed that while Simpson made a conscious decision to get out of the music business, Wentz’s heart always stayed in music and he kept going on tour, and this was one of the things that they fought about. Simpson is also asking the court to restore her name to Ashlee Nicole Simpson from Ashlee Simpson-Wentz. The couple apparently did not sign a prenuptial agreement.

The couple started dating in late 2006 and got married on May 17, 2008 in an “Alice in Wonderland” themed party held at the Simpson residence in Encino, California, according to MTV. A few months before getting married, there were rumors circulating that Simpson and Wentz were expecting a baby, but Wentz denied them saying it was a “witch hunt.” He later said that he lied to protect Simpson’s privacy.

For the divorce procedure, Ashlee Simpson is said to be represented by renowned divorce lawyer Laura Wasser, and Wentz will be represented by Stacy Phillips, according to the Hollywood Gossip. The divorce comes after the engagement announcement made by Simpson’s sister, Jessica to Eric Johnson. It will be Jessica’s second marriage, after being married to Nick Lachey.
