Anthony Joins the Knicks Putting an End to ‘Melo Drama’

The ‘Melo drama’ surrounding Carmelo Anthony’s trade was put to an end last Tuesday, when the New York Knicks officially acquired the former Denver Nuggets player.

Anthony, however, won’t really have an ample chance to prove himself yet because of an elbow injury. In his first game against the Milwaukee Bucks, he was received like a rock star in New York with video tributes and thousands of screaming fans. He contributed to a 114-108 win, scoring 27 points and having 10 rebounds. Chauncey Billups, who was also traded on Tuesday, finished with 21 points and eight assists as the Knicks won their third straight game, reports the Washington Post.

“This was ordinary for him [Anthony], and that’s the highest compliment of what he does. You drop him in any place, any playground, any place in the world and he’ll put up 27 points and 10 rebounds,” Knicks coach Mike D’Antoni said to the Washington Post. “That’s what he does for a living.

However, things quickly derailed when a Knicks’ loss in Cleveland deflated earlier optimism. The loss was quickly attributed to the recent trade and lack of cohesion in the newly formed team, “realistically, we know that this is not going to happen in the next week or the next two weeks,” Anthony said on Saturday. “Let’s just face it; that’s reality. It took everybody who made moves like this a period of time to come together and get right on the same page,” reports the New York Times. Anthony hit his elbow during the game, and said that although he’ll play against Miami Sunday night, he won’t be back to full health before two weeks.

Everyone’s eyes will be on the game as the Knicks face a team which acquired LeBron James, Dwayne Wade, and Chris Bosh, and faced similar struggles last summer.

“Regardless of this being my third game, for us it should be a statement game for us to come out and want to beat this team,” said Anthony who said he would be looking to make a “South Beach Statement” Sunday night, according to the New York Post.
