Gamer Banned from Playing Dragon Age 2 for Using ‘Profanity’

A player was reportedly banned from playing Dragon Age 2 which was released last week, after insulting the game in a forum posting. Developer BioWare later responded saying the ban was a “glitch.”

According to Kotaku, the player posted “Have you sold your souls to the EA devil?” which is not considered profanity. EA Games then proceeded to report his comment and ban him from playing Dragon Age 2 on his PC. At first, EA said that the ban was the result of someone reporting the comment, saying, “EA Community bans come down from a different department and are the result of someone hitting the REPORT POST button. These bans can affect access to your game and/or DLC,” according to The Consumerist.

After a 72 hour ban, EA restored the player’s access to the game, and said that it was due to an error, and clarified with the following statement, “EA strictly enforces the code of conduct at Social.BioWare.com. If a player violates the rules by using profanity, they will be temporarily banned. Unfortunately, there was an error in the system that accidentally suspended a user’s entire account. Immediately upon learning of the glitch, EA restored the user’s macro account and apologized for the inconvenience.”

Dragon Age 2 was released last week and has topped the UK video game chart of the week, dethroning first place spot holder Pokemon White and Black version which slid to second and fourth places respectively with sales halving, reports TechWatch. The majority of the game’s sales went to Xbox 360 owners with 57 percent, and PC users followed with 21 percent and Playstation 3 with 22 percent. The recently released, Fight Night Champion was third on the list, and Just Dance 2 was at number five.
