Analyst Gives Wii 2 Thumbs Down, Says Nintendo Missed the Boat

Wedbush analyst Michael Pachter has already given the Wii 2 a big thumbs down before Nintendo has even mentioned the possibility of one.  Rumors have been circulating for some time about a potential second Wii console release, but nothing has ever been substantiated or confirmed by Nintendo. Pachter stated that Nintendo missed their window of opportunity to compete with the new motion sensor gaming technology that has emerged, and he doubts that third party developers would be supportive of a second Wii console.

The Wii is the only mainstream gaming system that does not offer HD support, and it also does not have a blu-ray device like the Sony PS3 does.  Though it may not sport quite the fancy pants that the PS3 and Xbox 360 feature currently, that has not kept it from more than 30 million units since its 2006 launch.

Wii sales have seen a decline each year however since 2008, when Nintendo sold over 10 million units, reduced to a little less than 10 million units sold in 2009, and 7 million Wii units sold in 2010.  The decline in sales fueled the rumors that implied that Nintendo was leaning towards releasing an HD capable Wii console, with enhanced functionality and features.  The rumors boasted that an HD Wii would see the light of day in 2010, and updated rumors make the claim now for 2011.

Nintendo is not sharing or commenting on the rumors, and remains tight-lipped about the whole quandary.  There are Wii die hard fans out there that will not buy into the criticism of the analysts who think that the Wii is done for.  Whatever updates, add-ons or enhancements are promoted for the Wii console, I’m likley to be Johnny on the sport in line for it.  The Wii is extremely family friendly, and has provided years of fun and laughter in my house.  I also have an Xbox 360, and a Kinect, but that didn’t make my Wii gaming system or game library obsolete by any means.

You can compare the Nintendo Wii, Ps3 Move and Microsoft Kinect in this informative Motion Gaming 101 Guide that provides a comprehensive comparison and evaluation of the three gaming systems to help you determine which one is right for you.
