”The Walking Dead” to Hit Video Game Market

After picking up a Television adaptation on AMC, “The Walking Dead” will soon hit consoles as a full blown video game.

Telltale Games announced that they picked up the comic book “The Walking Dead,” and decided to launch episodic versions of the game that will follow the series. According to IGN, the developers of “Back to the Future” have entered a partnership with “The Walking Dead” creator, Robert Kirkman, and the game will be “multi-year, multi-platform, and multi-title.” Not much has been released about the upcoming game, but is said to be launched in the last quarter of 2011.

Kirkman says to IGN that, “The game is at an early stage, and we’re in the process of mapping this all out now,” and that it will be “episodic” and fall “within the comic book world.”

According to USA Today, there is no information on whether the game will be an adventure-type game such as Telltale’s other games, or if it will be more action-oriented. The comic series is about a group of people who wake up during an apocalypse and fight zombies to survive.

The game however, will go beyond this, “I came to Telltale to tell stories…to write about characters,” said the game’s lead designer and writer, Sean Vanaman to MTV. “The Walking Dead is about more than just zombies, it’s largely about how people interact with other people when they’re placed into this situation.”

“The Walking Dead” will also not be just about shooting zombies as is the norm in many other zombie games, the game’s director and designer tells MTV, “There’s 200 million games out there where you shoot or decapitate zombies…We’re interested in something different. For every zombie bite, there’s probably four or five terrible things that people are doing purely to screw with other people. It’s that character interaction that we’re excited about.”

You can catch “The Walking Dead” episodes on Demand for $1.99, or buy the entire season for $9.99
