Dead Space 2 Takes Horror to Another Level

Dead Space 2 isn’t for the faint hearted, it contains horror, action, and a lot of gruesome killing in between.

After a successful first game, Dead Space, that won dozens of awards, worldwide notoriety and unexpected earnings, Dead Space 2 is back to reignite the fear, according to the Sydney Morning Herald. Protagonist Isaac Clarke is still haunted by images of the Ishimura and his girlfriend that he wasn’t able to save from three years before. He wakes up in a psychiatric ward of a hospital in one of Saturn’s moons, according to The Post, and is still traumatized and can’t tell what is real and what isn’t. Once again he finds himself on the space station, the Sprawl and has to fight for his life amidst another alien Necromorph invasion.

Players are able to get into the game as Clarke finds his voice and expresses horror, rage and fear while he explores different maps, collects ammunition, and kills using new weapons such as the powerful Javelin gun and a spacesuit which has built in booster rockets, according to Gizmo Crunch. His enemies include reanimated beasts, government agents who want him dead, and his own sanity which threatens to abandon him throughout the game. This makes for an interesting plot that will keep you engaged from beginning to end.

The blood, gore, dismemberment, and the shocking scenes all establish that the MA, over 15 rating is well-founded and that it can become difficult to take at times.  The scenes are created to build up psychological terror and always keep players on their toes and ready to react. The jumpiness factor and the slow unraveling of terrifying settings and creepy creatures in Dead Space 2 make this game a worthwhile horror masterpiece.
