Lauren Conrad’s Show Turned Down by MTV

Former Laguna Beach and the Hills Reality TV star, Lauren Conrad, had her show idea declined by MTV, according to the Examiner. The cable network felt that the show was too “high brow” for MTV audiences.

The show filmed and pitched to MTV, was supposed to follow 25-year-old Conrad as she prepared to launch her own “contemporary” fashion clothing, line and also touch on her other business ventures.

“MTV felt the subject matter was too high brow for their audience and offered me the opportunity to change the show by incorporating more of my personal life. We agreed going into the project that this show would be an aspirational one, focusing on my career and my goals and not my personal relationships. We delivered the show that we sold and are sorry MTV didn’t feel their viewers were savvy enough to appreciate it” said Conrad, according to E!Online.

According to Conrad, she had specifically asked that her personal life be off-limits on the show. MTV, which thrives on drama politely declined, saying “We decided not to go ahead with the show,” David Janollari, executive VP of programming at MTV. “She did do a pilot. There were talks about whether we could somehow manage to put together a special based on that footage but that’s also a big question mark based on her interest in that and the finances…We would love her on our network! It was a great attempt but it just didn’t feel like a perfect fit for us now.”

MTV had announced Conrad’s return last fall. After her successful debuts on Laguna Beach and The Hills, many fans were undoubtedly looking forward to her return, and will be as disappointed as Conrad. As consolation, MTV offered this, “We love Lauren. This particular project didn’t work out, but she is a huge part of the MTV family and we hope to work with her in the future,” MTV told the TV column, according to the Washington Post.
