Elizabeth Taylor in Hospital for Congestive Heart Failure

Iconic actress, Elizabeth Taylor is in the hospital for symptoms of congestive heart failure according to a statement released by her representatives, relayed by CNN News.

Earlier this week, Taylor check into Cedars-Sinai hospital in Los Angeles for symptoms related to her “ongoing condition.” Taylor has a long history of health issues including heart problems. She had heart surgery in 2009 to repair a leaky valve. Since then she said that she felt great and said through Twitter that she felt like she had “a brand new ticker,” according to CNN News.

According to People Magazine, the statement also added, “Her family and close friends are appreciative of the warm support and interest of her loyal fans…but have asked that people respect her privacy and allow her medical team the time and space to focus on restoring her back to health.”

The 78-year-old actress is well known for her extravagant personal life with a long string of marriages. She hit her prime in the 1960s when she became a two time Oscar winner for her films, Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf? And Butterfield 8, according to The Telegraph.

Taylor has been suffering from her congestive heart failure condition since 2004.  This disease prevents the heart to pump efficiently to the rest of the body, causing it to work much harder to supply oxygenated blood. Symptoms of this condition include shortness of breath especially after activity, swelling of the ankles or feet, weight gain, weakness and fatigue. It can be caused by high blood pressure, narrowed arteries, and past heart attack, according to the LA Times. It is not clear what symptoms Elizabeth Taylor felt exactly but her representative assures that the “issue is being addressed,” and that she was being monitored at the hospital
