Chris Brown’s Restraining Order Lifted

Two years after the physical abuse incident with then girlfriend, Rihanna, Chris Brown had the restraining order against her lifted, as long as he doesn’t “harass, annoy, or molest” her.

The restraining order was due to last for five years until 2014, but the judge lifted it early as long as Chris Brown remained on his best behavior, says E! Online. The restraining order was downgraded to “level one” with the agreement of Rihanna’s lawyer, Donald Etra. The new order allows Brown to call or communicate with the “S&M” star. “He just can’t bother her,” Etra said after the hearing. Last month, Brown reportedly asked for the order to be lifted so that he could attend the Grammy Awards, but the judge refused it until she could talk with Rihanna’s representative. This time, Etra said at the hearing, “I have spoken to my client, and she does not object to the reduction to the stay away order.”

In 2009, Brown was convicted of assault and was sentenced to 5 years probation, 1,400 hours in “labor-oriented service” and a 52 week domestic abuse program. As of now, he has completed the program, and is still working on his community service in his hometown of Richmond, Virginia. Judge Patricia Schnegg said that she would review a progress report on his community service at a June 22 hearing, reported CNN.

According to CNN, Brown was arrested on February 8, 2009 after an early morning incident, which saw him arguing with his girlfriend in a rented Lamborghini. According to his probation report, Rihanna began the argument because she allegedly found a text message from a previous partner of Brown. He then punched her several times, and held her in a headlock that almost made her unconscious. He then left the vehicle, and Rihanna called out for help. After police response and investigation, Rihanna was issued “a domestic violence emergency protective order.”

According to the Hollywood Gossip, Rihanna was not present at the hearing, and there is no information as to whether the two singers intend to have contact or if it’s just a formality.  You can explore Chris Brown’s latest hits here.
