American Idol Ratings Rock On

For the second week in a row, the wildly popular show American Idol, dominated broadcast ratings both Wednesday and Thursday nights.

The show, now hosted by J Lo, Steven Tyler and veteran judge Randy Jackson for its tenth season, pulled in 25.2 million viewers and a 9.2 rating Wednesday night.  The second week also registered only a 5 percent decrease in viewership compared to the premiere according to KGMI.

On Thursday night, the show attracted 22.2 million viewers and had a rating of 7.6 putting the FOX network in lead for the night’s ratings. It even surpassed NBC, which came in second with its solid popular night of comedy, featuring brand new episodes of “The Office” and “30 Rock.” Together these two shows drew in 12.4 million viewers according to Reuters.

The second week of American idol showed auditions in Milwaukee, Nashville, and Austin. There were some good, some bad and some downright crazy auditions. A man in a full body purple latex bodysuit sang, while a former couple with different takes on their relationship  and unresolved feelings got together for a Bee Gee’s duet. There was a former Miss Tennessee who hoped to get judged on her voice, not on her looks.

A lot of heart wrenching stories are ripping through Idol during this season’s auditions. There’s a 26-year-old man whose fiancée got into an accident and suffered severe brain damage two months prior to their wedding. A 15-year-old girl is inspired by a cousin whom she sees as a sister as she fights a brain tumor. There’s also a country boy whose family takes in special needs foster kids.  Learn more about American Idol Music accomplishments.
