A trailer has been released announcing a dark sequel to the original Alice game ten years later, Alice: Madness Returns.

According to RealGamer, the game developed by Spicy Horse and published by EA Games, takes place ten years after Alice’s entire family dies in a horrific fire, with Alice trying to find a way to emotionally deal with the trauma of what happened. After being institutionalized for ten years in an insane asylum, she is finally released into the care of her psychiatrist who helps her deal with her powerful and delusional hallucinations.

The game is set for release in December 2011, and is available to pre-order on Amazon for Playstation 3, PC and Xbox 360. According to the product description, the game seems like it will be worth the wait. “Fall into the rabbit hole that is Alice’s insanity – Follow Alice back to her private paradise to discover a Wonderland corrupted by the darkest recesses of the mind. Alice escapes to Wonderland, seeking refuge from the brutal streets of London, but there are those in Wonderland who seek to cause Alice harm. With an arsenal of unusual weapons, including the legendary Vorpal Blade, Alice is far from defenseless. From the Mad Hatter to the Red Queen, Wonderland’s most famous residents are back, but some may not be as you remember them. Return to Wonderland to see what has become of its most prominent denizens when chaos is all that reigns,” it says.

The video game trailer shows Alice waking up in an idyllic Wonderland looking happy and relaxed.  Then she starts walking and something goes wrong. The wonderland turns into a dark place with a lot of death and destruction and filled with evil, twisted characters. Alice increasingly becomes wicked and perverse herself as her eyes turn cold, and she starts attacking creatures with a knife, spurting blood everywhere.
