The Razzies Dishonor ‘The Last Airbender’

As has been the tradition for 31 years, the Razzies handed out tacky plastic bead-encrusted trophies to the best of the worst films of the year, with ‘The Last Airbender’ taking home five awards.

As per tradition and taking place the night before the Oscars, The Golden Raspberry Award Foundation handed out Razzies to what it called, “an especially rancid string of movies,” reports Entertainment Weekly. M. Night Shyamalan took home the worst picture of the year award for ‘The Last Airbender’ beating out ‘Clash of the Titans’ and ‘Sex and the City 2’. The Razzies called it “a jumbled, jump-cut mess of a movie that fans of the TV show hated even more than critics did (if that’s even possible!).” It also got the awards for worst director, worst screenplay, worst eye-gouging use of 3D, and worst supporting actor for Jackson Rathbone who the Razzies also criticized for having “the misfortune to appear in both Airbender and 2010’s other most-RAZZIE-nominated title, Twilight Saga: Eclipse”.

Another film to be disgraced by the awards with three trophies including, worst sequel, worst screen ensemble, and worst actress, was ‘Sex and the City 2’ reports MTV News. It’s noteworthy that in keeping in line with the humorous ambience of the awards, the worst actress trophy was given to all four cast members of the movie, Sarah Jessica Parker, Kim Catrall, Cynthia Nixon, and Kristin Davis.

The satirical awards also gave the trophy for the worst actor to Ashton Kutcher for his performances in the movies ‘Valentine’s Day’ and ‘Killers,’ while Jessica Alba was hit with a Razzie after her fifth nomination for four movies, ‘Machete’, ‘The Killer Inside Me’, ‘Little Fockers’, and ‘Valentine’s Day.’

According to the Razzies website, “The Razzies® were created in 1980 as a logical antidote to Tinsel Town’s annual glut of self-congratulatory awards.”
