Prince William and Kate’s Wedding Invitations Creating a Buzz

The Royal Wedding event of the decade is set to take place at Westminster Abbey on April 29, and 1,900 invitations have already been sent, creating a buzz about who got invited or not to the coveted service.

Soccer superstar David Beckham and his ex-Spice Girls wife, Victoria have already received their invites. Elton John, who was close to Princess Diana and sang at her funeral, was also invited. On the other hand, Sarah Ferguson, the ex-wife of Prince William’s uncle prince Andrew, and President Obama have been snubbed, reports The Toronto Sun. While appearing on Live with Regis and Kelly, Michelle Obama said that, “If I get invited, I’ll go.” According to the UK’s Telegraph, the First Lady’s comments are likely to “exasperate” senior courtiers because back in November, they had to put off announcing a wedding date because they weren’t sure when the Obamas would make a State Visit to Britain.

The invitation which is a simple white card with gilded lines has the Queen’s initials die-stamped in gold at the top. It plainly states, ”The Lord Chamberlain is commanded by the Queen to invite [name] to the marriage of his Royal Highness Prince William of Wales KG with Miss Catherine Middleton at Westminster Abbey on Friday 29 April 2011 at 11.00am.”  It goes on to ask that guests RSVP to the Chamberlain’s office and that the dress was “uniform, morning coat, or lounge suit.”

While almost two thousand guests have been invited to the service at Westminster Abbey, only 600 will be attend the lunchtime ceremony that will be hosted by the Queen at Buckingham Palace.  There will also be about 300 close family and friends that will stay at the Palace for a more intimate dinner and dancing, reports BBC News.
