Christina Aguilera is still reeling from Sunday’s mistakes. She flubbed some words of the National Anthem at Sunday’s Super Bowl, and the reaction has been nothing less than vicious. People are no longer talking about the Green Bay Packers delivering a rather impressive performance, but are debating on which exact words Aguilera got wrong, and whether she should be forgiven or not, according to Entertainment Weekly.

Although Aguilera only messed up a few words to ‘The Star Spangled Banner’, many people were outraged. Instead of singing,”O’er the ramparts we watched” she belted out, “what so proudly we watched.” She released an apology almost immediately in which she said, “I got so caught up in the moment of the song that I lost my place…I can only hope that everyone could feel my love for this country and that the true spirit of its anthem still came through,” according to The Wall Street Journal.

Aguilera may be genuinely sorry but this didn’t stop television personalities from taking her mistake and running with it. David Letterman made a parody of her mixing up every one of her lines, while Conan O’Brien showed her being shot down by a fighter plane. Even Joan Rivers said, “How stupid can you get… Christina must have been thinking about food, that’s why she forgot the words,” She told Popeater.

Although the media has been tough with Aguilera, several artists have come to her defense. Fellow Super Bowl performer, Fergie said, “I completely understand, she’s one of the best singers of our time…Nobody can take that away from her, but you get nervous at these things. We’re human…It was such a huge venue, your nerves take a hold of you.” Jordin Sparks, who also sang the National Anthem, said of Christina, ”The test of a true artist is continuing even when things go a little left and not letting people know it did during the performance. I love Xtina,” relayed the New York Daily News.

Although Aguilera messed up part of the National Anthem, she can take comfort in the fact that she sang well in her pre-game rehearsal. The video of the rehearsal is currently making rounds on the internet.  Learn more about Christina Aguilera.
