Microsoft Announces Windows Phone 7 Updates for Next week

After a few bumps in the road for the Windows Phone 7, Microsoft has announced that the long-awaited updates will be rolled out next week.

Microsoft posted the list of updates on its website which will include the copy and paste feature which allows users to just tap a word from emails, Microsoft mobile documents and web page content, and drag the arrows to copy and paste it into the phone. There will be a more streamlined marketplace search experience that allows users to find music, games or apps much faster. Other marketplace improvements include more stability and facilitating the download of apps that are larger than 20 MB, and also being able to use a credit card with an address outside of the US for upgrading from trial apps to paid apps.

Other updates will make for a better messaging experience, and feature camera, outlook, and audio improvements. There will also be Wi-Fi improvements which removes the limit of Wi-Fi profiles which can be created and stored and reduces the time it takes for the phone to start if there are a lot of profiles. Also the phone’s MAC (Media Access Control) address will now be available in settings. In addition Microsoft promises Facebook integration and many other performance improvements.

The only downside is that customers may have to be patient in getting their updates depending on their location and carrier.

“To ensure quality, we release updates on a staggered schedule throughout the world. Many factors influence when you’ll receive an update, including which phone model you have and which company provides your mobile service. We’re committed to delivering updates in a timely manner, but don’t be surprised if it takes a few weeks for us to notify you that an update is available for your phone,” Microsoft said on its website.

As for the Windows Phone 7 carriers, Microsoft said, “We work closely with our carrier partners, and encourage them to test our software as swiftly as possible. But it’s still their network, and the reality is that some carriers require more time than others,” said Microsoft according to PCmag.
