Apple Executive Confirms White iPhone for Spring

After numerous delays, Apple executive, Phil Schiller, confirmed via his Twitter that a white version of the iPhone 4 would be available this spring.

In response to a question by a user about when he could get a white iPhone, Schiller tweeted, “the white iPhone will be available this spring (and it is a beauty!)” Since Apple usually releases new iPhones in June, it seems unlikely that the company would launch a white iPhone 4 so close to the next generation iPhone, leading to speculation whether the new white iPhone is for the iPhone 4 or iPhone 5. Technically speaking, an early June release for the white iPhone would still be considered a spring launch, but others are saying that a white iPhone 4 could be made public as soon as April.

Ming-Chi Kuo told AppleInsider that Apple manufactures will start producing a white iPhone 4 this month in preparation for an April launch.

Apple has had problems with the white iPhone 4 ever since its unveiling last June because of manufacturing issues and pushed back release date for July, according to PCmag. In July, Apple issued another statement saying that the white iPhone 4 wouldn’t be available until the end of the year.

“White models of Apple’s new iPhone 4 have continued to be more challenging to manufacture than we originally expected, and as a result they will not be available until later this year,” Apple continued, “The availability of the more popular iPhone 4 black models is not affected.”

In another delay last October, an Apple spokeswoman said in an email, “We’re sorry to disappoint customers waiting for the white iPhone yet again, but we’ve decided to delay its release until this spring.”

Many have speculated that the reason for this delay was due to the back panel of the new iPhone which was proving difficult to paint with high standard levels, but AppleInsider reported in January that Apple partnered up with a Japanese company to develop new paint material for the iPhone 4 that would allow for an impeccable white coating.
