Skype to Unveil Video Chat For Apple Devices?

With all of the techie rumors floating around about potential new gadgets, gizmos, and update that will be revealed at the upcoming Consumer Electronics Show in January 2011, its hard not to look forward to the event without great anticipation.  One of the smaller but definitely exciting potential announcements is expected to come from communications giant Skype, who is rumored to be unveiling Skype Video Chat features for the iPhone, iPod Touch, and iPad Apple devices.

The Skype Video Chat would compete directly with Apple’s FaceTime app, which is currently the only video chat app that is being used on the iPhone and iPod Touch, and is not currently available for the iPad yet.  The Skype Video Chat feature would also be available to use on both 3g and wi-fi connections, while the FaceTime app is only officially available for wi-fi connections.

The rumor is also fueled by speculation that Apple and Skype are racing head to head to be the first to provide video chat capability to the iPad, which could be a huge win based on the rumors that the iPad 2 will include built in web cam features, another gadget expected to be unveiled at the 2011 CES.

The Skype Video Chat update will function only on iOS 4.0 and higher, and will operate on the iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPod Touch 3rd and 4th generations, and allegedly, the iPad as well.   iPod Touch owners can be particularly excited by advancements made in the video chat and Skype call arena as these functions literally can transform your iPod Touch from a portable entertainment device to also perform as a portable communications device, performing functions that previously only mobile phones were able to.  To learn more about Apple electronic devices, visit the Apple Store.
