Kindle Singles Restore Spotlight To Long Form Journalism

Kindle Singles have recently launched at Amazon, and provide a phenomenal platform for long form journalism, a literary work that some say was headed towards extinction. Rather than be the literature killer than many predicted the Kindle ebook reader would turn out to be, it has instead served as a means of restoration in some capacity.

Long form journalism pieces, called Singles at the Amazon Kindle Store, have been a bit lost out in no man’s land being too long to fit into a magazine, and too short for most readers to consider them a book.

Long form journalism works are typically between 5000 and 30,000 words, and offer compelling stories in their natural length.  Electronic publishing offers the perfect platform for Singles, and is an ideal length for viewing on the Kindle ebook reader, or any other device that you read your Kindle books on, such as a laptop, iPod Touch, iPhone or smartphone.

Amazon has just launched their Singles platform, and is offering the Singles in their Kindle store for $2.99 and less.  The current Singles that are available were handpicked by Amazon editors, and offer a delightful selection of stories, how to books, and more.  Judging by the size of the Kindle eBook Store and how quickly it grew, it will be no time at all before there are thousands of Singles titles to choose from.

Just like Kindle ebooks, the Kindle Singles can be read on any device that has the Kindle Reader app.  You’ll find everything from fiction, biographies, and diet books, all at our fingertips for instant downloading.

The Kindle third generation ebook reader has dominated the ereader market ever since its launch last fall, and while the iPad and NookColor have certainly given the Kindle a run for its money, best estimates put the Kindle at the forefront.  Yes, it has to be estimates because Amazon refuses to release actual figures.  According to Barnes and Noble, the NookColor enjoyed an exceptional holiday sales report as well. Learn more about the Kindle ebook reader by visiting the Amazon Kindle Store.
